Anti-M\u00fcllerian Hormone (AMH)<\/h1>\n
Anti-M\u00fcllerian hormone (AMH) is produced in the ovaries and is indicative of the number and quality of a woman’s eggs in the ovaries (ovarian reserve).<\/p>\n
The results of this test can provide you with information regarding the remaining egg supply in the ovaries. A higher AMH level usually signifies a larger ovarian reserve, while a lower level may suggest a decreased ovarian reserve.<\/p>\n
Why an Anti-M\u00fcllerian Hormone Test?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Assessment of Fertility<\/strong>: A lower AMH level may indicate a diminished ovarian reserve, which could affect fertility.<\/li>\n
- Planning for Fertility Treatment<\/strong>s: An AMH test is used to help doctors determine the best treatment when providing women ovarian stimulation medications as part of their fertility treatment.<\/li>\n
- Menopause Prediction<\/strong>: AMH levels naturally decline with age, a low level of AMH in younger women can indicate a higher likelihood of early menopause.<\/li>\n
- Monitor Ovarian Function<\/strong>: An AMH test can be used to monitor ovarian function in women with conditions such as PCOS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Special Instructions:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Do not take biotin supplements for two days before this test; discuss this with your doctor if it is prescribed.<\/li>\n
- AMH levels fluctuate minimally throughout the menstrual cycle, so taking the test at any point will give you a valid result. However, if you have regular periods and you’re tracking your results over time, we recommend taking the test between days two and five of your cycle for consistency.<\/li>\n
- Hormonal contraception can affect the results of this test. Taking a break from this and waiting for your periods to restart before your blood test will give more accurate\u00a0results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

What is the process?<\/h4>\n\n- Our experienced phlebotomist will uncover your right or left arm.<\/li>\n
- A tourniquet will be placed around your upper arm. A tourniquet makes it easier for a needle to be placed in your veins by swelling the veins.<\/li>\n
- Once the tourniquet is fitted, a small quantity of blood will be drawn into tubes, using a needle.<\/li>\n
- After the blood draw is completed, a plaster will be placed onto the site; this can be removed after a couple of hours.<\/li>\n
- We will then post your sample to our partner laboratory for analysis.<\/li>\n
- You will receive your results 2-3 working days after the sample has been sent onto\u00a0the\u00a0laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

How much blood is taken?<\/strong><\/p>\nApproximately 8 ml of blood is taken; this is placed into a special tube for transportation to the laboratory.<\/p>\n
How long is the appointment?<\/strong><\/p>\nThe appointment is approximately 10 minutes long. Please ensure to arrive early to complete any necessary paperwork that may be outstanding.<\/p>\n
What if I’m scared of needles?<\/strong><\/p>\nIt’s completely understandable to feel anxious about needles, but please be assured that you are in good hands. Our phlebotomist is experienced and compassionate, and they are here to support you every step of the way. Upon arrival to the clinic, please communicate your concerns to our phlebotomist who will take extra care when carrying out the blood draw.<\/p>\n
What if you can’t get a blood sample on the day?<\/strong><\/p>\nOccasionally, we may encounter difficulty in obtaining a blood sample from you.
