Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) with a Scan in North London: Reassurance from 10 Weeks
Pregnancy is a truly life-changing experience, filled with joy, anticipation, and planning. It’s also a time when parents naturally seek reassurance about their baby’s health. At Hey Baby 4D Enfield, we offer something special for parents-to-be across North London — a Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) that includes a baby scan, giving you both medical insight and the emotional comfort of seeing your little one early on.
Whether you’re based in Enfield, Barnet, Tottenham, or surrounding North London areas, our NIPT service offers peace of mind as early as 10 weeks into pregnancy. In this blog, we’ll guide you through what NIPT is, what it includes, and why it’s one of the most powerful tools available for early pregnancy screening.
What Is NIPT?
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is a cutting-edge screening tool that analyses the cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from your baby that circulates in your bloodstream during pregnancy. This test requires just a simple blood draw — no needles near your baby, no invasive procedures, and no risk to your pregnancy.
At Hey Baby 4D Enfield, your NIPT appointment also includes a baby scan, which provides an early glimpse of your little one and confirms gestational age. It’s a wonderful way to combine medical insight with an emotional milestone — all in one appointment.

What Does NIPT Screen For?
Our standard Future Health NIPT screens for three of the most common chromosomal conditions:
Trisomy 21 – Down’s Syndrome
Affects around 1 in 1,000 babies. Children with Down’s syndrome may experience learning difficulties and certain physical traits, but each child is unique in their abilities and personality.
Trisomy 18 – Edwards’ Syndrome
A serious genetic condition seen in 1 in 6,000 pregnancies. It can cause severe developmental issues and often leads to miscarriage or limited life expectancy.
Trisomy 13 – Patau’s Syndrome
Affecting around 1 in 5,000 births, this condition is associated with significant medical complications, and many affected pregnancies result in loss.
All these conditions can be screened non-invasively, with results that are far more accurate than traditional combined screening methods.
Advanced Options: NIPT+ and Microdeletion Screening
If you’d like more comprehensive insight, we also offer two enhanced options:
NIPT+
This version screens for 22 chromosomal pairs, going well beyond the three standard trisomies. You can also choose to include sex chromosome screening, which brings the total to all 23 pairs — giving you a more complete picture of your baby’s chromosomal health.
NIPT+ with Microdeletions
This is our most advanced option. In addition to all the above, it screens for six rare but serious microdeletion syndromes, such as:
- DiGeorge Syndrome
- Angelman Syndrome
- Prader-Willi Syndrome
- Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome
- Cri-du-Chat Syndrome
- 1p36 Deletion Syndrome
These conditions arise from missing sections of chromosomes and can result in a wide range of developmental and medical challenges.
Find Out Your Baby’s Sex from 10 Weeks
Looking to find out whether you’re having a boy or a girl early in your pregnancy? Our NIPT with baby scan in North London can reveal your baby’s likely sex from just 10 weeks — earlier and more accurately than most other methods.
You can also choose to screen for sex chromosome aneuploidies, which can identify rare conditions such as:
- Turner Syndrome (XO)
- Triple X (XXX)
- Klinefelter Syndrome (XXY)
- Jacob’s Syndrome (XYY)
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your NIPT appointment at Hey Baby 4D Enfield includes both the scan and the blood test. Here’s what the process looks like:
- Consultation – Your healthcare provider will explain the test, review your health information, and answer any questions.
- Consent form – You’ll complete a simple form and provide some background health info.
- Ultrasound scan – A baby scan to confirm dates, viability, and that the pregnancy is progressing normally.
- Blood draw – A small sample of blood is taken (just like a standard blood test).
- Laboratory testing – Your sample is analysed using cutting-edge sequencing technology.
- Results – You’ll receive a secure report in 3–7 working days, followed by a phone call from your provider.
If needed, we also offer access to complimentary genetic counselling.
What Will My Results Tell Me?
There are two possible outcomes for each condition screened:
- Low Chance – This means it’s unlikely your baby has the condition.
- High Chance – This suggests a possible increased risk. Further testing may be recommended.
It’s important to understand that NIPT is a screening tool, not a diagnostic test. It provides a risk estimate, not a definitive diagnosis. For that reason, any high-risk result should be followed up with diagnostic testing such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS).
Combining NIPT with NHS Screening
If you’ve already had the NHS combined screening, don’t worry — you can still benefit from NIPT. The results of your NHS test can actually be factored into your NIPT analysis, giving a more accurate risk calculation. Simply bring your results with you to your appointment.
Who Is Not Suitable for NIPT?
- Most people can take the test, but it may not be suitable if:
- You’ve had an organ or bone marrow transplant
- You’ve received a white blood cell transfusion or stem cell therapy in the past year
- You have an active cancer diagnosis
- You have a known chromosomal imbalance
We’ll always assess suitability before proceeding.
